Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has added another individual accolade to his impressive season after his goal against Fenerbahçe was voted the Best Goal of Matchweek 22 in the Turkish Süper Lig.
The award was decided by fans following a voting exercise conducted across the league’s official social media platforms. Onuachu’s emphatic header, produced during a dramatic Istanbul derby, finished top of the polls ahead of other contenders.

Despite Trabzonspor falling to a narrow 3–2 defeat, the Nigerian forward’s strike stood out as one of the defining moments of the encounter, drawing widespread admiration for its timing, power, and execution.
“Even Škriniar couldn’t stop him”
Onuachu’s dominant display did not go unnoticed by Turkish pundits.
Speaking on the Vole programme, television personality Ali Sunal praised the striker’s physicality and influence, highlighting how difficult he was to contain throughout the match.
According to Sunal, Onuachu’s presence caused constant problems for Fenerbahçe’s backline, including experienced centre-back Milan Škriniar.
“It was a high-quality match with many standout players,” Sunal said.
“Onuachu is a huge asset for Trabzonspor. With his build and strength, he dominated the aerial battles. At times, even a defender like Škriniar was helpless against him.”
Leading from the front
The award further underlines Onuachu’s outstanding form this season.
The former Africa Cup of Nations bronze medallist has now scored 16 goals in 19 league appearances, placing him among the top scorers in the Süper Lig.
Handed the captain’s armband, the Super Eagles forward has become central to Trabzonspor’s attacking play under head coach Fatih Tekke.
Notably, six of his goals this campaign have come from headers, a testament to his aerial dominance.
Trabzonspor will next turn their attention to an away fixture against Gaziantep FK, with Onuachu set to spearhead their push for another positive result as the season progresses.
