The government of Ogun State is set to launch a legal case against the driver of the car in which former world boxing champion, Anthony Joshua was injured and two of his close friends lost their lives.

It was gathered further that charges against the 47-year-old driver could range from excessive speeding, careless overtaking and manslaughter, which could end with a term in prison for him.

This comes after updated reports indicated that Adeniyi, who has been in charge of driving Joshua over the years during the boxer’s stay in Nigeria, was discharged from hospital late Thursday.

He was immediately taken to Ogun State capital, Abeokuta, for questioning, regarding what led to Monday’s fatal accident at Makun, near Sagamu, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

A report by Daily Mail disclosed that Adeniyi was questioned for several hours and gave an official statement of the accident, which left two of Joshua’s closest friends dead.

The report added: “Adeniyi was at the wheel of the Lexus and allegedly way over the 65mph speed limit for the Lagos-Ibadan expressway when he lost control after a tire burst during an overtaking manoeuvre.

“The Lexus carrying Joshua, 36, and two of his training staff, Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele then smashed into an illegally parked truck on the hard shoulder which was carrying soya beans.

“The force of the impact tore the nearside section of the car away, and Ghami and Ayodele were killed instantly while Joshua and Adeniyi suffered only minor injuries.

“Joshua sat behind the driver and escaped death by inches. A police source said: ‘The driver was released after treatment for minor injuries and was then taken to the state police headquarters for questioning.

“He is in a stable condition and was able to provide us with his version of events that led up to the crash, and we expect a charging decision within the next 48 hours but the bank holiday may delay proceedings.”
