Sports247 gathered that his opponent in Lagos this Sunday is a former victim of another British heavyweight, Dillian Whyte, and he is not expected to pose much of a challenge for Nigerian-born Okolie.
The 32-year-old Okolie has not fought since his victory over Kevin Lerena at Wembley in July, but he looks good to defeat Ghana’s Ebenezer Tetteh, who took on Whyte in December 2024.
The 37-year-old Ghanaian lasted seven rounds before Whyte forced a stoppage and Okolie confessed that Tetteh is only a stepping stone towards his eagerly anticipated all-British title fight with WBO champion, Fabio Wardley.
Okolie told The Ring magazine: “Oleksandr Usyk didn’t want to fight Fabio Wardley for whatever reason. So, he becomes the champion (and) I think he earned it.
“That’s the fight that I want next, if I win this one. I think the most direct route to a world title would be Fabio, because he’s a world champion now.”
