Nigeria’s Special Eagles continued their impressive run at the inaugural West Africa Para Games in Abeokuta on Sunday, defeating Cameroon 1–0 to set a new benchmark and move closer to the amputee football final.
The victory followed their historic 11–0 demolition of Benin Republic during the opening ceremony—Nigeria’s biggest-ever win in the competition—firmly establishing the hosts as the team to beat.

Unlike the one-sided opener, the contest against Cameroon was a tight battle, but the Special Eagles showed grit and composure to secure the vital win that places them in strong contention for Wednesday’s final.
The team had earlier delivered a masterclass in attacking football against Benin Republic, with Ahmed Usman scoring four goals, Michael Joel netting a hat-trick, Ahize Daniel adding three from the bench, and Ibrahim Ndako contributing one in a dominant 50-minute display.
Nigeria’s early pressure saw Usman and Joel combine brilliantly, with Joel’s shot clipping the woodwork before Usman capitalised on a poor goal kick to open the scoring.
In other group results, Benin Republic held Cameroon to a goalless draw, while Liberia made a bold statement with a 7–0 win over Benin in their first outing.
The Special Eagles, now unbeaten and yet to concede in the tournament, will face Liberia on Monday in their final group match.
A win or draw would seal their place in Wednesday’s grand finale, as they continue their quest to lift the maiden West Africa Para Games amputee football title.
