Kennedy Boboye Seeks Victory For Bendel Insurance Against Rivers United

The new coach at Bendel Insurance FC of Benin City, Kennedy Boboye has set his mind of getting victory against Rivers United of Port Harcourt this Wednesday, when both sides clash in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), Sports247 reports.

Boboye declared as much following his side’s 1-1 draw with visiting Warri Wolves of Delta State, who currently stand tall in second place on the NPFL log and slightly behind table topping Nasarawa United of Lafia.

Although Rivers United, who recently qualified for the CAF Champions League’s group stage, stand higher in 10th position ahead of the 18th placed Bendel Insurance, Boboye believes The Benin Arsenal can snatch victory over their visitors from The Garden City.

He admitted that Bendel Insurance are currently facing a turbulent spell and already looking like relegation candidates, but stressed that they just have to keep fighting hard in order to stay afloat.

The former NPFL title winner with Plateau United of Jos declared, “We need to keep pushing and try to survive. We didn’t bargain on getting a draw at home in this match, but football is like that. In spite of the situation that we have, we just have to keep pushing for the sake of football.”

The former striker and ex-youth international, whose game against Wolves on Saturday was his second outing since taking over the mantle in Benin City, refrained from blaming his predecessor for putting the Edo State government-owned team on the brink of relegation, but disclosed that he is already working towards achieving their revival.

Boboye added, “I won’t downgrade my colleague, because he also wanted improvements in the team, but it turned out the other way round.

“We are trying to make changes, but there’s nothing we can do now until mid-season. So, I have to work with these boys, and I need to push them hard for us to get the results that we need.”

He concluded by admitting that he will just have to find ways of churning out good results with the current set of players in the club, especially when they play at home in Benin City, where they will host Rivers United in midweek.

Boboye concluded by conceding: “There’s nobody that can come and play for us now apart from these ones that are on ground.
“So, we need to make sure that we improve, because we can’t be dropping points like this. If we want to escape relegation, we must win matches, especially our home games.
