Doma United of Gombe winger, Fantami Yusuf has dedicated his lone goal to his mother and was happy that it sank Inter Lagos FC in match number two of the 2026 Nigerian National League (NNL) at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
Sports247 reports that the jocular lad, who hails from Borno State, struck early during the encounter that was played under floodlights, and his team held on firmly until the final whistle to win the game 1-0.
The victory drew Doma United level with Sporting Lagos, who earlier defeated Ranchers Bees of Kaduna by the same margin in match number one, thereby giving both sides an uphill task when they face-off on Wednesday.
Heading into that game in mid-week, Fantami admitted he would love to score again, but the former Sokoto United dazzler said he will just relish for now the pleasure of scoring his team’s first goal of this competition.
Yusuf disclosed further in an exclusive chat with Sports247, “This is my first goal since I joined Doma United, and I’m happy about it. I dedicate it to my mum, because she always prays for me.
“She’s a dedicated Muslim, and she prays for me all the time. I want to make her proud with my football, and I want to be like Marcus Rashford of Barcelona.”
All eyes will be on Yusuf this Wednesday, when he lines out for Coach Najib Mabo’s squad against Sporting Lagos in a decisive battle of two former Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) outfits.
The winner of that match is likely to emerge top of this year’s NNL Super-4, which should make it a more fiesty encounter than Monday’s clash with Inter Lagos, in which both sides got a red card each.
