A rising star is emerging from the heart of Lagos’ booming Showtime Super Bowl Flag Football League, and his name is Oluwalanu Taiwo — a fearless, fast-growing quarterback for the Lagos Raptors, whose remarkable sporting journey is already turning heads across Nigeria’s flag football scene.
The talented youngster, who has been playing flag football for just six months, revealed that his switch from soccer to flag football came after realizing that his true potential lay in a sport that rewards focus, teamwork, and strategy — not just raw speed or strength.

Speaking with Sports247 after helping the Raptors clinch yet another hard-fought victory on Sunday at the Showtime Arena in Lekki, Taiwo explained how the innovative, mixed-gender sport reignited his passion for competition.
“It’s about being locked in and doing what the coach says you should do,” Oluwalanu Taiwo said with a confident smile. “I have to show dedication to the team. The coach always reminds me that even if I make mistakes, I should keep going and believe in myself.”
Despite his short time in the league, Taiwo has already established himself as one of the breakout players of Season 8, showing composure, awareness, and a natural ability to lead on the field.
The young quarterback was full of gratitude to his coaches and teammates for helping him transition seamlessly into flag football’s fast-paced, tactical world.
“I thank my teammates for encouraging me,” Taiwo added. “I played football before, but I wasn’t very good at it. Then I tried American football in school, and that helped me improve. This season, I switched to flag football — and my team has made it so much easier for me to fit in.”
Known among fans for his calm leadership and growing confidence, Taiwo represents the new face of Nigeria’s rapidly expanding flag football movement — one that continues to empower both young men and women to thrive on equal footing.
And as the Showtime Bowl Series XIII unfolds, one thing is clear: Taiwo isn’t just playing for fun — he’s playing for the future
