Sodje Urges Super Eagles to Fight Till the End in Crucial Clash Against Benin

Former Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje has called on Nigeria’s national team to give their absolute best performance in their final World Cup qualifying match against Benin Republic, stressing that this is the moment for players to rise above pressure and deliver results.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s decisive fixture, Sodje said the Super Eagles must focus solely on what they can control—winning the game. He emphasized that the team must block out external distractions and play with determination and tactical discipline.

“This is not the time to calculate or rely on anyone else,” Sodje said. “The players must give 100 percent effort, play for the badge, and fight till the very end. They know what’s at stake—qualification and national pride. That alone should be enough motivation.”

Sodje, who represented Nigeria at the 2004 African Cup of Nations, also urged the technical crew to equip the players with the right tactical plan and mindset. He noted that the team’s approach and information from the sidelines could make the difference in such a high-pressure fixture.

“The coaching crew must ensure the players are armed with the right information, structure, and awareness of the opposition’s weaknesses,” he added. “This match is not just about talent—it’s about mental strength and proper game management.”

Nigeria’s qualification hopes remain uncertain after a string of mixed results, but Sodje insisted the team can still turn things around if they show unity and resilience.

“The situation may look tough, but we’ve seen the Super Eagles rise from difficult positions before,” he said. “All they need is to stay focused, believe in themselves, and make Nigerians proud once again.”
