Switzerland international Isaac Osas Schmidt has revealed that a lack of communication from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) influenced his decision to represent the Swiss national team instead of the Super Eagles.
In a candid interview, the 25-year-old right-back, who has Nigerian roots, explained that Switzerland showed genuine interest in his talent early on — a gesture he never received from Nigeria.

“I have a strong connection to the country and have been there a few times. But I’ve never had any contact with the Nigerian national team,” Osas said.
Osas, who currently plays in the Swiss Super League, emphasized that his decision wasn’t out of disregard for his Nigerian heritage but rather a practical response to the opportunities presented to him.
“Switzerland was the first to reach out to me; hence my decision,” he added.
The defender also clarified the origin of his middle name, often a point of curiosity among fans.
“Osas is just an abbreviation for me. My full middle name is Osayimori,” he explained with a smile.
Born to Nigerian parents but raised in Switzerland, Osas Schmidt’s rise through the Swiss youth ranks made him eligible for both nations. However, with the Super Eagles failing to initiate contact, the versatile full-back opted to commit his international future to the European side.
His decision reignites ongoing discussions about Nigeria’s approach to scouting and engaging players of dual nationality — a recurring issue as several talented foreign-born Nigerians continue to pledge allegiance to other countries.
