As reactions continue trailing a thrilling debut for Super Eagles’ midfielder, Wilfred Oyinyen Ndidi at Besiktas of Turkey, Nigerian ex-international striker, Daniel ‘Da Bull’ Amokachi has revealed several assets that he believes his compatriot will offer the Istanbul-based outfit.
Sports247 reports that Ndidi, who arrived in a summer transfer deal from Leicester City of England barely two weeks ago, went straight into the starting line-up at his new club, which also featured the Nigerian-born duo of Felix Uduokhai in defence and Tammy Abraham in attack.
Although Ndidi had to go off in the 70th minute of Saturday’s game, having picked up a yellow card and appeared to be limping, the Nath Boys FC of Lagos product had done enough to help his side get a 2-1 win against visiting Eyupspor.
In reaction to Ndidi’s gritty debut with the Turkish Super Lig side, Amokachi, who happens to be a former Besiktas striker, stressed that his compatriot has arrived with a lot of assets in his playing style to offer The Blacks.
Amokachi, who also played for Club Brugge of Belgium and Everton of England, added that Ndidi will fill a void that has been left in the middle of the pack at Besiktas since the departure of their Canadian battler, Atiba Hutchinson, in 2023.
The Nigerian legend reiterated: “Ndidi coming into Besiktas is a plus, because they need a hard-core midfield player on the field. They need a general, which has been lacking in the midfield of their team since Hutchinson left.
“Hutchinson was a player who gave 120%, and Ndidi is one of those midfielders who I see as a replica. Ndidi can defend, he can give those crucial passes, he is very good at one-on-one situations, and he is also very good at reading the game ”
Although Amokachi went on to affirm that succeeding at Besiktas would depend on how Ndidi comports himself in the squad, the icon concluded with a pass mark for the former central defender, who also previously played for KAA Gent of Belgium.
‘Amo-Taxi’ submitted eloquently: “Ndidi coming to Besiktas is a plus for the club. I know, if he focuses very well, which we already know is another good thing about him, he will succeed there.
“He’s a player who’s always grinding on the field and gives 120% effort. So, the expectation is that we shouldn’t say we’re expecting anything from Ndidi, because we know that he will deliver and do his business while wearing the black-and-white.”
Amokachi will also hope to see Ndidi start again on Thursday, when the squad that is now being handled by Ole Gunnar Solskjær play away to FC Lausanne of Switzerland in the UEFA Conference League
