WAFCON 2024: Zambia’s Israel-based Attacker, Nachula Recalls Victory Over Super Falcons In 2022

Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem of Israel attacker, Rachael Nachula has recalled her she and her colleagues in Zambia’s female national team defeated Nigeria’s Super Falcons in 2022 and declared that they will repeat that feat this Friday.

Sports247 reports that Nigeria and Zambia will lock horns this Friday in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) and Nachula is tipping her side to carry the day.

The former Zaragoza CFF of Spain forward, who was a successful 400m runner for her country before switching to football, declared emphatically that the Copper Queens are not afraid of Nigeria’s Falcons, who she believes they can beat once they work for it.

Nachula stressed, “We are not scared of any team, and we can not be scared of Nigeria. All we need is just to work extra hard and be focused.”

Nachula, who is already 39 years old but still waxing strong for club and country, went on to reel out some of the strategies that her team will employ to upset the nine-time African champions on Friday in Casablanca, Morocco.

She added, “We will maintain the instructions that we’ve been given by our coach. We are going to play the game according to our coach’s plan.

“Nothing is going to disturb us mentally or physically. We are ready for Nigeria, and I’m sure it will be a good game.”

She then cast her mind back to the third place match at WAFCON 2022, which also took place in Morocco, and her side surprisingly defeated the Falcons to return home with consolation bronze medals.

Nachula recounted gleefully, “In the 2022 edition, we faced Nigeria in the 3rd, 4th game … from which we came out better.

“We beat Nigeria, and that gives us motivation for this game. So, no matter how the team is, we can beat them again.”

The former quartermiler, who represented Zambia at the 2008 Olympic Games among other top track and field competitions before switching to football, ended with a verdict that her team can win the WAFCON 2024 trophy.

“We are Copper Queens, and we know what we are capable of doing. We are strong enough. So, we can conquer each and every team,” Nachula predicted.
