Adegoke, who had finished behind Ezeakor at the last National Sports Festival, turned the tables this time with a determined run, clocking 10.29s (+2.6) to take the win. Ezeakor was hot on his heels, settling for second in 10.31s in what was arguably the most anticipated sprint battle of the day.
This win serves as a confidence booster for Adegoke, who has steadily worked his way back into top form after injury setbacks in recent seasons.
Meanwhile, one of the top contenders, Olaolu Jason Olatunde, opted out of the final after an electrifying performance in the heats, where he clocked a Personal Best of 10.19s (+1.5) to emerge as the fastest overall qualifier. His withdrawal was a surprise, though sources say it was a precautionary decision to stay fresh for the bigger stage at the Trials.
With the National Trials fast approaching, Adegoke’s resurgence, Ezeakor’s consistency, and Olatunde’s blistering form are setting up a mouthwatering sprint showdown as Nigeria’s top stars vie for spots on the national team.
