With just days remaining before the WAFU‑B U‑20 Boys Tournament kicks off July 10 in Ghana, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, led by head coach Aliyu Zubairu, have resumed training in Abuja, intensifying preparations for the regional showdown.

Zubairu, who took over from Ladan Bosso, confirmed the inclusion of several new call‑ups aimed at strengthening the attacking unit and remedying the team’s scoring inefficiencies .

He views the WAFU‑B tournament as a valuable platform to assess fresh talent and fine‑tune strategies ahead of the *FIFA U‑20 World Cup in Chile (Sept 27 – Oct 19)* .

The Flying Eagles are drawn in Group A, alongside hosts Ghana and Benin Republic, with matches scheduled to begin on July 10 against Ghana, followed by a Group A fixture on July 13 .

Zubairu’s squad is undergoing tactical drills focused on finishing and team cohesion.

This tournament marks Nigeria’s latest attempt to build on their 2025 U‑20 AFCON bronze finish in Egypt, where Zubairu lamented a lack of clinical edge in front of goal .
