Joseph Yobo Reflects On Goodison Debut and Merseyside Glory Ahead of Everton’s Move

As Everton FC prepares to leave its historic home, Goodison Park, former Nigerian international and club legend Joseph Yobo took a moment to reflect on what the ground meant to him.

The ex-defender, who spent the bulk of his European career at the club, revealed that his debut at Goodison remains one of the most emotional moments of his career.

“Playing at Goodison for the first time was unforgettable,” said Yobo. “The fans, the atmosphere—nothing compares to it.”

He also revisited a particularly memorable campaign where he played every single minute of the season, helping Everton finish above arch-rivals Liverpool, a feat that still stands out in the club’s modern history. “That was special.

To contribute so fully in a season where we surpassed Liverpool—it meant everything,” he added.

Yobo, now retired, wished the team all the best as they prepare to relocate and expressed hope of seeing the Toffees compete once again on the European stage.
