Edikan Cletus etched his name into Akwa Ibom’s sporting history on Thursday, May 22, as he led Team Akwa Ibom’s Kung Fu contingent to a commendable medal haul at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State, declaring confidently that “this success has come to stay.”
After clinching bronze and silver medals in previous editions of the festival, Cletus finally reached the pinnacle by securing his first-ever gold medal at the prestigious national event.

“I am very grateful to God for making me a gold medallist for Team Akwa Ibom in Kung Fu,” the elated athlete said after the medal decoration ceremony.
“We worked hard and deserved a gold, so I’m happy to have done this for the state. Now that I have won gold, this success has come to stay, and I’ll continue to win and bring glory to the state.”
Cletus’s triumph was part of a broader success story for Team Akwa Ibom’s Kung Fu team, which wrapped up its campaign with a total of five medals—one gold, two silvers, and two bronzes.
Among the standout performers was Mfoniso Victor David, who showcased remarkable versatility to win both a silver and a bronze medal. Reflecting on her performance, she expressed determination to climb higher next time.
“I pray I will improve to gold next time after winning silver and bronze at the 2025 National Sports Festival,” she said.
Other notable medalists included David Anthony, who claimed a silver medal, and Ofonime Augustine, who added a bronze to the team’s tally.
The success of the Kung Fu contingent not only highlights the growing depth of martial arts talent in Akwa Ibom but also sets the tone for continued dominance in future national competitions.
