The MKO Abiola Stadium has undergone significant transformation and will now be known as the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, reflecting its new status as a multi-sport facility.
Ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), the once football-focused venue has been refurbished to include a 50-meter Olympic-size swimming pool, tartan track, basketball, tennis and handball courts, a hybrid football turf, a digital scoreboard, and VVIP seating for 150 guests.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, emphasized that the NSF has played a vital role in revitalizing the state’s sporting infrastructure and stimulating the local economy.
He said the renaming aligns with the complex’s expanded capabilities and underlines the government’s commitment to building a sustainable sports ecosystem that contributes to the state’s GDP.
The governor also revealed that the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has selected Ogun State to host the 2025 U-18 and U-20 African Championships, originally slated for Algeria.
He said the successful bid for the NSF was a strategic move to boost sports infrastructure and economic opportunities in the Gateway State. With hotels fully booked and local vendors enjoying increased business, Abiodun affirmed that the festival will bring lasting economic benefits.
