At just 20 years old, Fehintola Esther, a promising baseball player from Benin City, is carving out her path in one of Nigeria’s lesser-known sports. With passion, discipline, and determination, the young athlete is focused on building a name for herself while shining a light on baseball’s growing presence in the country.
Esther discovered her love for the sport in 2019 at a grassroots training camp organized by the Edo State Baseball Association. What began as curiosity soon developed into an unshakable commitment to the game.

Currently training at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Esther continues to sharpen her skills despite the limited facilities and support available for baseball in Nigeria.
“It’s not easy,” she admitted. “Baseball doesn’t get as much attention as football, but that won’t stop me. I believe hard work always pays off.”

“There are so many talented players in our communities who are unseen,” she explained. “If we get more coverage and opportunities, Nigerian baseball will move forward.”
To increase her exposure, Esther has turned to social media to share her training routines and connect with coaches and scouts around the world.
“I post my training clips online,” she said. “It’s a way to let people see what I can do — you never know who might be watching.”
Despite the challenges, Esther remains optimistic about the future of baseball in Nigeria. Her ultimate dream is to represent the nation internationally and inspire more young people — especially girls — to pursue the sport.
“I believe baseball has a place here,” she concluded. “With the right support, Nigeria can compete with the best in the world
