Yobe Desert Stars Top Group A, Dedicate Victory to Governor Buni

Yobe Desert Stars FC showcased grit and determination on Sunday as they overturned an early deficit to secure a 2-1 victory over Doma United FC in their second Group A fixture of the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 Playoffs in Asaba.

The result propels the Damaturu-based side to the summit of the group with four points, following a draw in their opening game. Goals from Abdullahi Yakubu Dokshi and Umar Idriss Goska cancelled out Doma United’s early lead, earning Yobe Desert Stars their first win of the playoffs and putting them in strong contention for a promotion slot to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

In the wake of the spirited win, the team proudly dedicated the result to the Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, lauding his unwavering support and investment in sports development across the state. The club praised the governor’s commitment, describing it as a key pillar behind their growing success story.

Club Chairman, Mohammed Alkali Achama Sarkiyo, was also hailed for his inclusive leadership style and strategic vision, which have helped stabilize and inspire the team on and off the pitch. Sarkiyo’s leadership, combined with Governor Buni’s consistent backing, has been credited with laying the foundation for Yobe Desert Stars’ strong playoff campaign.

With Wikki Tourists and Barau FC yet to complete their second fixtures, the group remains wide open. However, Yobe Desert Stars have put themselves in a commanding position as they eye a return to top-flight football — a mission that now holds symbolic value for both the club and its fans across Yobe State.

The team has reaffirmed its focus and determination, vowing to fight till the final whistle in their quest for promotion and to continue making the state proud on the national football stage
