Former Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfield legend Yaya Toure has singled out Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the standout team at the recently concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

In an exclusive interview with Bleacher Report Football, the four-time African Footballer of the Year praised Nigeria for their attacking style, consistency, and overall team quality.
He highlighted the Super Eagles’ impressive tournament stats, noting that they scored 14 goals and conceded only four before falling to hosts Morocco in a semifinal penalty shootout.
“Nigeria played good football. When you see the stats, they’ve been scoring more than usual goals, full strike, full attack, playing very good football. The most impressive for me, in my opinion, was Nigeria,” Toure said, emphasizing the team’s talented roster and cohesive play.
Nigeria bounced back to claim third place, defeating Egypt in another penalty shootout, a result Toure credited to their depth and attacking talent.
He further commended Morocco and Algeria for their tournament performances, describing Morocco as pragmatic and effective in counterattacks, while acknowledging Algeria’s strong showing despite being eliminated by the Super Eagles.
Toure also praised Congo for their competitive play and noted that Ivory Coast, despite being a young and inexperienced side, showed promise for the future.
His comments underscore the growing recognition of Nigeria’s footballing prowess, signaling optimism for the Super Eagles as they build toward upcoming international competitions.
