World Cup qualifer: Adel Amrouche Slams Amavubi Players’ Attitude, Demands Urgency Ahead of Benin Clash

Rwanda’s head coach, Adel Amrouche, has expressed disappointment with the mentality and attitude of his players as the Amavubi prepare for their crucial World Cup qualifying fixture against Benin Republic.

The Algerian tactician, known for his strict discipline and high standards, stated that his team is lacking the hunger and determination required to secure positive results in their remaining games.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kigali, Amrouche admitted that he was unhappy with the team’s recent displays, stressing that the players must change their approach if they are to compete effectively.

“We are not showing enough hunger,” he said. “Football is not just about talent; it’s about mentality, hard work, and discipline. Some players are not giving the level of commitment expected at this stage.”

Amrouche emphasized that no individual is above the team, warning that any player who fails to meet the group’s collective standards will be dropped. “The name on the back of the jersey does not matter. What matters is the badge on the front. The team comes first,” he added.

With Benin Republic posing a serious challenge, Amrouche said his focus is on rebuilding team chemistry and ensuring that every player understands their role on the pitch. “Benin are a strong side physically and technically. We have to match them in every department if we want to get a result,” he said.

The former Kenya and Libya coach also urged the Rwandan supporters to stay behind the team, promising that the players will respond positively to constructive criticism. “We still have games to play and pride to fight for,” Amrouche concluded.

The Amavubi will face Benin Republic this weekend, and anything short of victory could further dent their hopes of a strong finish in the qualification race.
