Nigeria’s Senior Men’s Cricket National Team, the Yellow Greens, officially launched their campaign for the ICC T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier today at the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) Oval in Abuja. Head coach Steve Mangongo and team captain Sylvester Okpe lead the squad into battle as hosts, aiming to secure a path toward the global showpiece.
Alongside key player Daniel Ajekun, the Nigerian squad enters the tournament on home soil with high expectations. The team faces tough competition against regional rivals, including Gambia, Mozambique, and Zambia, in a bid to dominate the sub-regional round.
Coach Steve Mangongo expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, emphasising that playing in front of a home crowd provides a vital psychological advantage. With local talents like Okpe guiding the bowling attack and Ajekun anchoring the batting lineup, the Yellow Greens possess a strong mix of experience and momentum.
The tournament format requires Nigeria to finish among the top two teams to advance to the final Africa Regional Qualifier stage. Success on home turf in Abuja represents the crucial first step on the long pathway toward securing an unprecedented ICC T20 World Cup spot for the nation.
