Women’s U20 World Cup: Ikpeme Charges Falconets To Approach Sunday’s Match With ‘Clarity Of Purpose’

The acting general secretary of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme has charged the country’s female youth national team, Falconets to approach Sunday’s last group match versus New Caledonia with ‘clarity of purpose.’

Sports247 repots that, with the Falconets needing a rain of goals to stand any chance of making it to the round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Ikpeme charged Coach Moses Aduku’s players to fight tooth and nail in order to scale through.

A press release from the NFF’s communications department revealed that Ikpeme spoke with the players on phone after their last training session in Łódź, Poland on Saturday, during which he pointed out that the squad must do better than they did in their goalless draw with China.

Ikpeme added that pride, honour and rewards are at stake, hence his clarion call on everyone in the team rise to the occasion when they take to the pitch of Stadion Miejski LKS for Sunday’s last opening round fixture against the debutants, who sit bottom of Group F.

He reminded them, “You have a great chance to qualify for the Round of 16 if you win and win well against New Caledonia. It is a good opportunity that you have to prove yourself. You must approach the match with clarity of purpose, focus and ambition.

“You had a good game against China, but you did not score. So, our country is still with one point on the table. Against New Caledonia, goals are important to take us to four points and a good position to reach the knockout rounds.”

Sports247 reports further that, with the Falconets standing third into the last phase of group matches, they need to win with a wide margin to edge ahead of China on goals difference, should the Asians lose to Spain, who top the log after defeating Nigeria 2-0 and New Caledonia 11-0.
