Wilfred Ndidi’s return a boost for Leicester City

The defensive midfielder made his return from injury in midweek. He started in Ukraine on Thursday and lasted for close to an hour as Leicester fell to a 1-0 to Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League.

“It was very important,” Foxes boss, Brendan Rodgers on Ndidi’s return. “Wilf’s come through it fine, he didn’t look like he’d been away in all honesty. His physicality is very important for our team, so that was good for him to get 55 minutes.”

Ndidi had been sidelined with an abductor injury for the past two months. He missed 13 club matches in the process and was absent from Nigeria’s squad for both October friendlies and the 2021 AFCON qualifiers games in November.

Although the Foxes are in healthy form having qualified from their Europa League group and are the fourth position in the league table, Ndidi’s return should serve as a welcome boost for the team with games packed in a tight schedule.

When fully fit, the Nigerian is indispensable for Leicester and is a key cog of Brendan Rodgers’ side. His presence in front of the defense galvanizes the Foxes into a more robust side that is hard to penetrate.

Ndidi is expected to play some part when Leicester travel to Sheffield United for a Premier League clash on Sunday.
