Speaking on the initiative, Gusau revealed that the federation intends to acquire a dedicated truck to transport VAR equipment, currently based in Abidjan—across member nations in the zone.
“We want to take VAR everywhere,” he said.
According to him, the move is aimed at expanding access to modern refereeing technology and improving the quality of officiating across West Africa.
“It’s about development,” he implied.
Gusau explained that the mobile system will be used primarily for training referees, ensuring they gain hands-on experience with VAR technology.
“We must train our officials,” he noted.
He added that better-trained referees will increase the chances of officials from the region being selected for continental and international assignments.
“It opens opportunities,” he stressed.
For the NFF president, the initiative represents a significant step toward aligning West African football with global standards.
“We must move forward,” he added.
The plan also reflects CAF’s broader push to modernize officiating and reduce controversies in African football.
As implementation begins, expectations will be high for the initiative to deliver tangible improvements.
For Gusau, the message is clear.
Embrace technology.
Invest in training.
And raise standards.
Because in modern football, accuracy matters, and VAR is now part of the game.
