Remo Stars Ladies have confirmed the departure of head coach Wemimo Mathew, bringing an end to a nearly three-year spell that saw the tactician play a significant role in the rapid rise of the Ikenne-based side.
The club announced Mathew’s exit on Thursday, September 3, thanking the coach for her dedication, professionalism and contribution to the development of the team since joining in October 2023.
“Wemimo joined Remo Stars Ladies in October 2023 and made significant contributions to the development and progress of the team during her time at the club,” Remo Stars said in an official statement.
Her tenure delivered tangible success, including two Ogun State FA Cup titles, with Remo Stars Ladies lifting the trophy in 2024 and successfully defending it in 2025.
Mathew also guided the Sky Blue Ladies to qualification for the NWFL Super Six in the 2024/25 season, a landmark achievement in the club’s history.
Her work attracted wider recognition beyond the club. In 2025, she represented Nigeria at the CAF Women Instructors Development Workshop in Ethiopia, while also earning NWFL Coach of the Month honours and the Best Coach of the First Round award during the 2024/25 campaign.
Mathew also previously worked within the national-team setup as an assistant coach with the Super Falcons and Falconets, giving her experience at both club and international levels.
Her departure comes after Remo Stars Ladies finished sixth in Group B of the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership, narrowly missing out on the Super Six after recording six wins, six draws and six defeats from 18 matches.
Remo Stars Ladies expressed appreciation for Mathew’s service, describing her achievements as an important part of the club’s continued growth.
“The club appreciates Wemimo Mathew for her dedication, professionalism and service throughout her time with us and wishes her every success in the next chapter of her coaching career,” the club stated.
Mathew now leaves Remo Stars Ladies with two Ogun FA Cup trophies and a historic Super Six qualification to her name, while attention will turn to where the highly regarded Nigerian female coach will begin the next chapter of her career.
