The much-anticipated match is part of Core Afrique Boxing Promotions’ ‘Homecoming’ event scheduled to take place at the National Stadium’s indoor sports hall in Lagos on October 27, 2023.

This fight dubbed the ‘Jollof Derby,’ will feature the return of some of Nigeria’s top fighters who have honed their skills abroad.

The event is expected to be a spectacle with a strong undercard lineup, including fighters like Oto Joseph, Rilwan Babatunde, Kabiru Towolawi, Rasheed Adeyemo, Adeyemi Adekanla, Celina Agwu, Ibrahim Taofeeq, and Bartholomew Abuchi.

Ridwan Oyekola, who has earned the nickname ‘Scorpion,’ is confident and believes he can secure victory in this showdown. Speaking ahead of the fight, Oyekola expressed his determination, saying, “I know I can beat him, and I believe it will be with a knockout on Friday. I have prepared for this fight, and I am ready to give my all in the fight against the Ghanaian.”

The Japan-based Oyekola started his professional career in 2017, accumulating 11 wins, six of which were knockouts, two losses, and two draws in his record. Notably, he has suffered only one loss since 2019 and aims to avoid another in this high-stakes bout.

On the other side of the ring, Emmanuel Quartey, who boasts 24 wins, with 21 of them by knockout, nine losses, and one draw, is set to challenge Oyekola.

Quartey’s most recent fight against Jerry Lartey on October 8 ended controversially when the judges declared a split decision win for Quartey.

However, the president of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Abraham Neeqaye, reversed the result during a broadcast on October 9, announcing Lartey as the winner of the bout.

The clash between Ridwan Oyekola, and Quartey promises to be a fierce contest, attracting boxing enthusiasts eager to witness a thrilling ‘Homecoming’ showdown.
