Victor Boniface Shines As Bayer Leverkusen Thrash Qarabag 5-1 In UEFA Europa League

Super Eagles star Victor Boniface made a significant impact for Bayer Leverkusen as they secured an impressive 5-1 victory against Qarabag in their UEFA Europa League encounter at the BayArena.

Before the match, Boniface was recognized for his remarkable achievement of finishing as the joint top-scorer in the 2022-23 UEFA Europa League campaign.

Bayer Leverkusen wasted no time in taking the lead at home, with 20-year-old attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz finding the net just four minutes into the game.

Qarabag managed to level the score with a penalty, awarded against the run of play, which was calmly converted by Toral Bayramov in the 16th minute.

Bayer Leverkusen quickly regained the lead in the 29th minute, courtesy of left-wing back Alejandro Grimaldo, who capitalized on an assist from Wirtz.

Wirtz, who had already recorded one assist, set up Boniface for the third goal six minutes later. Boniface showcased his skill by deftly controlling the ball and volleying it home from outside the box, scoring his tenth goal of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen’s dominance continued into the second half, with Grimaldo netting his second goal of the night in the 54th minute. Edmond Tapsoba, the Burkina Faso international, added his name to the scoresheet three minutes later, sealing the 5-1 victory.

After an impressive performance, Boniface was substituted after 62 minutes, making way for Czech international Patrick Schick.
