Watford’s Bennets Misses WAFU Cup Due To Health Issues

Watford of England youngster, Jayden Bennetts will not star for Nigeria at next month’s West African Football Union (WAFU) U-20 Cup in Lome, Togo because Flying Eagles’ officials could not get his medical certificate.

Sports247.ng gathered that, despite an formal assurance from Watford to Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that they would release Bennetts to Paul Aiggogun’s team, the youngster has been knocked out due to logistics issues that prevented him from turning up for the medicals.

Consequently, Bennetts will not make his youth international debut for Nigeria at the U20 WAFU Cup next month, despite The Hornets clearing him to train with the Flying Eagles during the international break.

Aigbogun had to submit the squad list last week Saturday and Bennetts had to be certified fit to play in the tournament but he was in England.

Watford were willing to release Bennetts for the regional tournament but the Flying Eagles doctor advised Aigbogun not to include the lad’s name because of the health implications.

Aigbogun will now hope his backroom staff get their roles right next time, as Watford also stated that they are willing to release Bennetts during the international window in February 2019.
