WAFU Cup: Falcons get revenge over Ghana, face hosts in final

Nigeria edged past defending champions Ghana 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 full time draw to reach the 2019 WAFU Women’s Cup final on Thursday.

The Super Falcons got their pound of flesh over the Black Queens, who also defeated them on penalties in 2018.

Ghana dominated the early exchanges at the Stade Robert Champroux, while Nigeria, who have scored 22 goals in the tournament struggled to breach the Ghanaian defence despite having the larger share of possession.

Goalkeeper Chimaka Nnadozi was the hero during the shootout after saving a penalty, while Amarachi Okoronkwo, Alice Ogebe and Chidinma Okeke converted their penalties to book a spot in the final against hosts, Ivory Coast.

Ivory Coast on the other side, had earlier defeated Mali 2-1 in the other semifinal and will now face the Super Falcons on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Ghana will lock horns with Mali in the third-place final.
