The Super Falcons and Flying Eagles face crucial Wednesday fixtures as Nigeria’s two youth and senior teams fight to keep their continental ambitions alive.
The Super Falcons will face Egypt in their final Group C match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday, with qualification for the quarter-finals hanging in the balance.

Nigeria are currently second in the group on three points, behind leaders Malawi, while Zambia also have three points. Egypt are bottom without a point after two matches.
The Super Falcons must beat Egypt to give themselves the best possible chance of advancing, but their qualification is not entirely in their own hands.
Nigeria will also be watching the outcome of the other Group C match between Malawi and Zambia, which will be played simultaneously.
A Malawi win or draw against Zambia, combined with a Nigeria victory over Egypt, will send the Super Falcons through to the quarter-finals.
However, if Zambia defeat Malawi, Nigeria’s fate will depend on the margin of victory because the three teams could finish level on six points.
Nigeria defeated Zambia 1-0, while Malawi stunned Nigeria 3-2.
Under CAF’s three-team head-to-head tiebreaking procedure, points, goal difference and goals scored in matches among the tied teams are considered before the competition moves to further criteria.
Therefore, a Zambia victory by 4-3 or any higher-scoring winning one-goal margin would leave Nigeria at the bottom of the three-team head-to-head calculation and eliminate the defending champions.
A Zambia win by a narrower margin, meanwhile, could leave Nigeria ahead of the Copper Queens depending on the final scoreline.
The die is cast as all three teams have something to fight for, quarter final qualifications at stake and to keep their chase for a 2027 FIFA World Cup ticket alive beyond winning the trophy.
The Super Falcons’ encounter with Egypt is scheduled for 9 pm Nigerian time on Wednesday in Rabat. Same time as Malawi vs Zambia.
Flying Eagles Face Host Côte d’Ivoire
The Flying Eagles will also have their hands full on Wednesday when they face hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the semi-final of the WAFU B U-20 Championship.
Nigeria reached the semi-finals as Group B runners-up despite losing 2-0 to Burkina Faso in their final group match.
The seven-time African champions now face the tournament hosts with a place in the final at stake, with a 3 pm kick-off time ( Nigerian time ).
An outright victory will keep Nigeria’s hopes of retaining the WAFU B U-20 title alive while also strengthening their bid to secure qualification for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Flying Eagles are the defending champions of the WAFU B U-20 competition and will need to overcome Côte d’Ivoire on home soil to remain on course for another title.
For Nigeria, therefore, Wednesday is truly a day of decision — with the Super Falcons depending partly on Malawi’s result and the Flying Eagles needing to overcome the hosts to keep their championship and continental qualification dreams alive.
