WAFCON 2022: “It’s possible!”– Botswana FA President Boasts The Country’s National Team Can Beat Super Falcons On Thursday

President of the Botswana Football Association MacLean Letshwiti has expressed optimism that ‘The Zebras’ of Botswana is capable of causing an upset when the country faces Nigeria’s Super Falcons in their second Group C match on Thursday(tomorrow).

Botswana who are debutants in the tournament kickoff of their maiden campaign with an impressive 4-2 win over fellow Debutants, Burundi on Monday while Super Falcons were beaten 2-1 by their continental rival, the Banyana Banyana of South Africa.

While speaking ahead of tomorrow’s clash against 9-time winners of the tournament, Letshwiti congratulated the country’s side on their first ever win at the biggest women’s football event in the continental, urging the teams that they can do it once more by defeating Nigeria in their next game.

He also appreciated the people back at home for their well wishes and patriotic spirits, charging them to intensify their support for the teams as the tournament continues.

“Let me congratulate The Mares for putting an excellent shift at work, defeating Burundi by a convincing 4 – 2 score line at the ongoing Wafcon Tournament here in Morocco,” Letshwiti said in a post published in Botswana FA’s Facebook page.

“The Ladies’ thrilling performances (against Burundi) demonstrated beyond doubt that together we can achieve. I therefore humbly urge the Ladies to continue to show their mettle against the best in Africa. A re kgotetseng!

“Further, I wish to also thank the people of Botswana back home for their well wishes and their patriotic spirit, rallying behind this exciting team.We are more than excited about your collective support. Let’s rally more and more behind The Mares especially in the second match which is a critical encounter in the tournament with its associated pressure and international focus now squarely on The Mares.

A victory against Nigeria’s Super Falcons tomorrow will guarantee Botswana a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
