Wafa League 2025: Nigeria’s Premier Women’s Grassroots League to Kick Off May 31 with 22 Teams

The 2025 season of the Wafa League, Nigeria’s leading grassroots women’s football competition, is set to kick off on Saturday, May 31, with 22 teams participating from across the country.

The League Draws and Seminar will take place on May 24 ahead of the official commencement of matches.

The teams will be grouped into zones, with the top two from each zone advancing to the final stage where the overall champions will emerge.

CAT Ladies from Surulere, Lagos, are the defending champions, having won the 2023/2024 season title.

The participating teams are: CAT Ladies, BWFA English Queens, Ayisat Yusuf FA, Victory FA Queens, STM Doves, Royaltoms Queens, SGH Sports Amazon, Aseyori Queens, New Generation, Edufoot Starlet FA, Dynamite FA, MJV FA, Ghetto Tigers Ladies, Wazbak Int’l FA, Great Stars Amazons, Future Stars 99, Ijamido Queens, Heroes Queens, FC Phoenix Queens, United Squad Angels, Clever Stars Queens, and Chosen Generations Angels.

The Wafa League, organized by the Female Football Academies Proprietors (FEFAP), serves as a major platform for identifying and nurturing young female talent in Nigeria. It has produced players for the national teams, Nigeria Women’s Football League clubs, and international sides.

The FEFAP leadership includes Jaiyeola Damilare as President, Adeboye Soneye as Head of Competition, Olajide Royal as Technical Director, and Bagbe Micheal as Chief Operating Officer.

The league’s matches will be played at various locations nationwide.
