VOLLEYBALL: NIGERIA, GHANA DAZZLE IN ZONE 3 AFRICA VOLLEYBALL IN LAGOS

The Zone 3 Africa volleyball clubs championship served off on Monday at the indoor sports hall of the University of Lagos with eight matches in the male and female categories played with 3-0 set recorded in the most of the matches, sports247.ng reports.

 

Chairman, Media and Publicity Secretary, Kehinde Lamidi who made this available to newsmen on Monday said one of the Nigeria’s representatives, Police volleyball club defeated Entente volleyball club of Benin 3-0 in the first match of pool A in the male category, the defending champions, Police volleyball club of Ghana displayed it’s prowess mauling its counterpart from Togo, OTR Volleyball club 3-0 in the second match in pool A.

The afternoon session matches in Pool A witnessed a fire brand in the third match between the police of Ghana and Entente of Benin but ended 3-0 in favour of the defending champions while the last match of pool A in the male category between Nigeria police and OTR of Togo also ended 3-0 in favour of Nigeria Police.

The first and only match in pool B of male category which was between two Nigeria’s teams, Immigration and Customs produced 3-0 in favour of Customs.

Three female matches were decided on day one of the Continental volleyball tournament holding at the indoor sports hall of UNILAG.

The first match was between two Nigeria’s representatives, Customs and Kada Emeralds, it ended 3-0 in favour of Customs, Ghana police lost to Nigeria Army in the second match 0-3 while the last female match which was between Kada Emeralds of Nigeria and OTR of Togo ended 3-0 in favour Kada Emeralds.

Speaking with journalists, the president of CAVB Zone 3,Paul Atchoe rated the tournament high judging by the results recorded in all the matches adding that the game is improving in the zone.

The president of the Nigeria volleyball federation, Musa Nimrod applauded the performances of the Nigeria’s representatives charging them not to relent in ensuring that they feature at the finals of the male and female categories.

Hostilities continue on day two of the tournament,Tuesday 16th of April,2019.
