VIDEO: Agege Stadium Comes Back to Life Under DG Lekan Fatodu’s Leadership

After years of uncertainty, delays, and abandoned work, the once-silent Agege Stadium is alive again—thanks to renewed leadership, firm supervision, and strategic intervention by the Lagos State Sports Commission under the leadership of Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the commission.

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Sports Commission, ordered the closure of Agege Stadium four years ago for renovation.

However, the project suffered major setbacks as the contractor failed to deliver within the agreed timeline, leading to months of abandonment and growing frustration among sports fans.

For a long time, hope faded. The stadium—once regarded as a true soccer temple—stood idle, raising doubts about whether it would ever be completed.

That narrative has now changed.

A recent visit by our correspondent confirms that Agege Stadium has received a major facelift. The laying of the astro turf is almost completed, while the stands and other key sections of the facility are undergoing serious renovation. Construction work is now active and visible, signaling a clear turnaround.

According to information gathered, the renovated stadium is expected to be fully ready on or before June.

Fans at the stadium expressed excitement and renewed confidence, attributing the progress to the decisive leadership of DG Lekan Fatodu. In less than two years in office, he has closely monitored sports infrastructure development across Lagos State, patiently resolving disputes and ensuring contractors return to site and deliver.

While some fans criticized the earlier handling of the project—insisting the stadium should have been completed long ago—they agreed that it is only fair to commend leadership when things are finally moving in the right direction.

A personal inspection of the facility today tells a powerful story of rebirth. A new pavilion building is under construction, the stadium is being designed with full cover, and plans are in place for a world-class scoreboard. Importantly, all materials required for the completion of the project are already on ground.

The atmosphere around the stadium was one of joy and optimism. Fans could hardly contain their excitement, confident that within the next two months, Agege Stadium will officially return as a modern, world-class sporting arena.

As many supporters noted, criticism alone is not enough. When progress is visible and hope is restored, praise must be given to those who deserve it. Under the leadership of DG Lekan Fatodu, Agege Stadium has not only been revived—it has been given a new life.
