VANDREZZER FC SUPPORT AKWA IBOM GOVERNMENT IN FIGHTING COVID-19

On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, a team from VANDREZZER FC embarked on distribution of hand sanitizers across our host state, Akwa Ibom, to boost the fight against COVID-19.

This is sequel to distribution of similar items in Lagos State last week.

On the VFC delegation were Act. Chief Operating Officer Kingsley Ogbonna, Media Director George Essien and a chieftain of VFC fan club in University of Uyo, Dr. Uko Uwak.

Receiving one carton of sanitizers (28 bottles of 500 ml each) on behalf St Theresa’s Hospital, Use Abat, Ibiono, Chief Medical Director Dr Emmanuel Item reiterated the reality of the virus and thanked VFC for the donation:

“I want everybody to know that coronavirus is real. People must observe all prescribed preventive measures including use of hand sanitizers. That’s why we are very grateful for this support, though it’s is not surprising to us because Vandrezzer is known to always give back to the society. God bless you”.

Still in Ibiono which is the Lions’ training base, the team visited the Ibiaku Community Secondary School, where the Vice Principal, Administration Mrs Mfon George received one carton of hand sanitizers on behalf of the school. According to her, this is the only support they have so far received regarding COVID-19 :

“We are very grateful, we accept these with good faith and pray that God should bless you”.

At St.Theresa’s Primary School, Use Abat, Ibiono, the team, covered in protective clothing including face masks and gloves, gave a brief talk about COVID-19 and administered the sanitizers to pupils who were advised to observe good hygiene during this period and beyond.

Two cartons of sanitizers went to the Ibom Speciality Hospital, Itam, with Personsl Assistant to the Chief Medical Director Mr Abasi Akan Ekpuk expressing happiness at the gesture, while promising that they will be deployed judiciously for the service of its patients, who not only come from Akwa Ibom but all over the country and indeed Africa:

“This gesture may seem small, but it is indeed big in our eyes. On behalf of the management of this world class facility, we are very grateful”.

The VFC team also visited the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) and donated three cartons (84 bottles) to help the hospital, which will be the epicentre in the event of an outbreak in Akwa Ibom State.

Medical Superintendent, Dr. Udeme Inim, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Akwa Ibom Health Ministry, was full of appreciation:

“This is love for humanity. The sanitizers will help a lot and we pray for God’s help to surmount this pandemic while we do our very best. Thank you very much”.
