Former African Games triple jump champion and 2022 World Indoor finalist Ruth Usoro will make her European indoor debut on Wednesday at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series event.
The 28-year-old Nigerian is aiming to rebuild momentum in the global rankings after periods of inactivity in recent years.
She made her return to competition last month at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas, posting a season’s best of 6.26m in the long jump.
Usoro is entered for the same event in Belgrade and will be the only Nigerian female athlete competing at the meet.
In the men’s category, reigning African Games 400m champion Chidi Okezie will continue his European indoor circuit.
The 32-year-old has already competed in Luxembourg, where he ran a season’s best of 46.62 seconds, and in Stockholm.
His indoor personal best of 46.48 seconds currently places him outside Nigeria’s all-time top 10 list.
Shot putter Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will also feature in Belgrade. The Nigerian record holder is looking to improve on his fifth-place finish in Madrid last week as he builds form ahead of major international competitions.
The Belgrade meeting is expected to provide a strong test for the Nigerian trio as they seek improved performances on the global indoor stage.
