A plan has been set in motion by the sports committee of United Universal Comprehensive College, off Governor Road, Ikotun, Lagos, to stage a competition tagged Mini-Olympic Games.
This was revealed in a chat with Sports247 by the school’s sports master, Mr Paul Delight, who added that the basic objectives of the upcoming event are to help the students build themselves physically.
He added that the sports competition, which will involve many competitive events, would help the school to promote ideals of teamwork, collective effort and unity among their students.
The sports master thanked the school’s owner for approving the proposal, for which he said a proper date and conducive venue will soon be announced for the fiesta.
“We have already set plans in motion for this sports competition to take place in a great way and grand style,” said Mr Paul, while expressing gratitude to the school authority for their support.
“We thank the proprietor, as well as the principal, Mr Ibrahim Ogara, for how they are encouraging us. I also thank the entire school management at United Universal Comprehensive College for their efforts towards making it a successful day.”
The sports master concluded by disclosing several aims and objectives of the forthcoming event, which he said will be followed by a full-fledged inter-house sports competition at a later date.
“The mini-Olympic Games will be organised to prepare our students for future careers in all aspects of sports. We also want to use it in promoting physical fitness among them.
“Other objectives are development of unity, promoting sportsmanship and encouraging teamwork among them. It was also introduced to discover and nurture students’ sporting talents,” Mr Paul expatiated.
Sports247 gathered further that the sports master is receiving logistics support from two of their students – Emmanuel Joseph (sports prefect), Abraham Omor (assistant sports prefect), Florence Akinola (social prefect) and Adeola Afolayan (assistant social prefect).
