Olympique Marseille of France new loan signing, Ethan Nwaneri has received comforting words from Arsenal of England captain, Martin Ødegaard, who believes the Nigerian-born lad will excel in Ligue 1.
Sports247 reports that Nwaneri already gave a sign of what is to come, as he scored on his Marseille debut last weekend against RC Lens, and he will now aim to do even better, after getting Ødegaard’s blessings.
The latest motivation now spurring Nwaneri to do better than the fringe part role he had to play before leaving Arsenal on loan last week came when Ødegaard sent a congratulatory message to the lad, who scored 24 hours after signing for ‘OM.’
Ødegaard recalled how he experienced several loan spells during his early days at Real Madrid of Spain, but he always pushed himself to impress at every base he went when he was sent away from the La Liga club.
The Gunners’ skipper noted that he eventually broke into the first team at Santiago Bernabeu, hence his words of encouragement to Nwaneri, while also explaining to the Nigerian-born lad that a loan spell is best for him at 18 years old.
“I went on loan a few times when I was a young player. So, I spoke with Ethan before he left. We spoke about what he was feeling, his situation and the opportunity.
“I understand it – I’ve been there too. Obviously, you always want to play more, but it depends on competition. So, this will be a good move for him,” Ødegaard theorized.
