The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has been officially confirmed as the host of the 28th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games following the formal handover of the hosting flag and the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).

The milestone event took place during a courtesy visit by the NUGA Games Committee to the university, led by the Chairman of UNICAL NUGA Games 2026, Prof. Lukas Ogunjimi.
At the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, received the hosting flag and appended his signature to the MoA, officially granting the institution the mandate to host the prestigious national university sports festival.
In his remarks, Prof. Offiong assured the delegation of the university’s full readiness and commitment to delivering a world-class event, pledging that UNICAL would host what he described as “the best NUGA Games ever.”
He also highlighted Calabar’s longstanding reputation as a peaceful, hospitable, and culturally vibrant city, qualities he said would enhance the overall experience of participants and visitors.
Preparations for the Games, scheduled for August 2026, are already underway, with the Cross River State Government serving as Chief Host. The collaboration is expected to strengthen infrastructure, logistics, and security arrangements for the event.
The 28th NUGA Games will bring together student-athletes from universities across Nigeria, showcasing sporting excellence while promoting unity, cultural exchange, and youth development. With the hosting rights now officially secured, UNICAL is positioning itself to deliver a memorable sporting and cultural spectacle on the national stage.
