After navigating the earlier rounds with confidence, Umukoro raised the tempo in the final, producing a powerful start and smooth drive phase to hold off a strong late challenge from London Tucker, who finished second in 7.27s.

Machaeda Linton completed the podium in 7.32s, while fellow Nigerian Olayinka Olajide of Texas Tech narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth in 7.33s in a tightly contested race.

Umukoro’s winning time was the fastest of the meet and a clear statement of intent early in the indoor season, highlighting her ability to deliver under pressure and peak at the right moment.

The result also reinforced Nigeria’s growing depth in women’s sprinting, with two athletes finishing inside the top four of a highly competitive final.

With the indoor season gathering momentum, Umukoro’s Corky Classic triumph positions her as a sprinter to watch in the weeks ahead, as she continues to build form and confidence on the road to bigger championship stages.
