In her address during the event, she described the young athletes as the “future of Nigerian sports,” highlighting the need for early talent identification and nurturing.
“What we are witnessing here is the future of Nigerian sports. When we catch them young, nurture their talents, and give them the right foundation, we are building champions not just for today, but for generations to come,” Dr. Gbagi said.
The South West Zonal Games brought together primary school pupils from across the region in a vibrant display of sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill.
The event is part of UBEC’s national agenda to strengthen physical education and competitive sports in basic education institutions across Nigeria.
Dr. Gbagi’s presence not only underscored the federal government’s commitment to grassroots sports development but also inspired pupils, teachers, and sports officials present, reinforcing UBEC’s mission to create a robust pipeline for future sporting talents.
