The deal, confirmed by multiple sources including transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, will see the experienced centre-back sign a contract with Al Ahli SC that runs until June 2028, underlining the club’s long-term confidence in his quality and leadership.

Troost-Ekong departs Al Kholood after an impactful one-season spell in Saudi Arabia, having joined the club in August 2024. Despite his short stay, the 32-year-old quickly became a pillar of the team, earning the captain’s armband and establishing himself as a commanding presence at the heart of defence.

His composure, organisational ability and consistency were instrumental as Al Kholood navigated the rigours of top-flight football. In total, Troost-Ekong made 49 competitive appearances for the club, bringing stability and invaluable experience to the squad.

Those attributes have now attracted the attention of Al Ahli SC, who are keen to reinforce their team with proven leaders as they prepare for upcoming domestic and continental challenges. The Qatari side view the signing as a strategic addition, aimed at strengthening their defensive structure and dressing-room leadership.

Born in the Netherlands, Troost-Ekong boasts a rich and diverse club career, with spells across the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, England and Greece before his move to the Middle East. His ability to adapt seamlessly to different footballing environments has remained a hallmark of his career.

On the international stage, Troost-Ekong is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished defenders of his generation.

He captained the Super Eagles, earned over 80 caps and played a pivotal role in several Africa Cup of Nations campaigns. He officially retired from international football in late 2025 to concentrate fully on his club career.

Now, with a fresh challenge ahead in Qatar, Troost-Ekong will be aiming to translate his experience and leadership into success at Al Ahli SC, as both player and club look to build a productive and ambitious partnership through to 2028.
