Troost-Ekong Rallies Super Eagles Ahead of Crucial World Cup Qualifier Against Lesotho

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has struck a confident tone ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, emphasizing unity, focus, and belief within the squad as preparations hit top gear in Polokwane, South Africa.

Speaking to Super Eagles TV, the experienced defender praised the team’s spirit and readiness, insisting that every player in camp has earned their place.

“Everyone who’s here deserves to be here. They’re doing well at their clubs, and the coach trusts them. I’m very happy with the group we have, and we’re focused on the final training before Friday’s game,” Troost-Ekong said.

Despite the absence of a few key names, the skipper downplayed any concerns, viewing it instead as an opportunity for others to step up and make their mark.

“It gives other boys the opportunity to fill those voids. There are no question marks — everyone here is ready to contribute,” he added.

Troost-Ekong also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from Nigerians across the globe, noting that the players draw strength from the nation’s collective backing.

“We miss our teammates who couldn’t make it, but we know they’re supporting us — along with the 270 million Nigerians cheering from home,” he said.

With morale high and preparations nearing completion, the Super Eagles are determined to start their World Cup qualifying campaign on a strong note when they take on the Crocodiles of Lesotho at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday.

A win in Polokwane would hand Nigeria an early advantage in Group C and boost their drive to secure a return to football’s biggest stage after missing the 2022 edition in Qatar.
