Reflecting on Nigeria’s recent progress and performance against Portugal, the experienced defender said the Super Eagles possess the talent needed to compete at the highest level.
“The future of the team is very bright,” Troost-Ekong said.
According to the former captain, one of the major challenges Nigeria faced during the last World Cup qualifying campaign was the constant change of coaches.
“The coaching changes affected the team significantly,” he implied.
Troost-Ekong explained that the lack of continuity made it difficult for the squad to build momentum and establish a consistent football identity.
“Stability is very important in football,” he noted.
The defender believes the Super Eagles should avoid repeating those mistakes and instead provide long-term support for coach Eric Chelle.
“We need continuity under Eric Chelle,” he added.
Troost-Ekong also praised the current generation of players and emerging leaders within the squad, expressing confidence in the team’s future.
“There are many talented players and future leaders in this group,” he stressed.
The former captain further urged the Super Eagles to begin preparing seriously for the next World Cup qualification campaign.
“We must approach the next cycle with more structure and seriousness,” he said.
Nigeria’s recent performances against strong opposition have generated optimism despite missing out on the last World Cup.
“Many believe the team is moving in the right direction under Chelle,” football observers continue to say.
The Super Eagles remain focused on building a stronger foundation ahead of future competitions.
For William Troost-Ekong, the message is clear.
The talent is available.
The future is promising.
And stability under Eric Chelle could be the key to unlocking Nigeria’s full potential.
Because successful national teams are built through continuity, planning, and long-term commitment.
