The controversy intensified after Somali referee Omar Artan was reportedly denied entry into the United States ahead of the tournament, a development that has sparked debate within the football community.

Speaking on the issue, Infantino urged critics to remain calm while acknowledging that FIFA has limited powers regarding immigration decisions made by sovereign nations.

“People need to relax and understand the situation,” Infantino said.

According to the FIFA president, football’s governing body cannot interfere with border-control decisions taken by national authorities.

“FIFA is not the king of the world and cannot override immigration laws,” he implied.

The situation involving Artan is one of several logistical challenges linked to preparations for the 2026 World Cup. Reports have also indicated that the Iran national football team had to adjust aspects of its preparations due to travel and visa considerations.

Despite the criticism, Infantino insists he remains fully confident in the choice of the United States as one of the tournament hosts.

“I do not regret selecting the United States as a host nation,” he noted.

The FIFA president stressed that the tournament remains on course to deliver a successful World Cup experience despite the challenges.

“We are focused on organizing a great World Cup,” he added.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be one of the largest in history, with matches taking place across multiple host nations.

“Visa and travel issues are becoming an important talking point ahead of the tournament,” many football observers believe.

The debate continues as FIFA works alongside host nations to ensure smooth preparations for the global showpiece.

For Gianni Infantino, the message is clear.

FIFA cannot control immigration decisions.

The United States remains the right choice to host the tournament.

And the focus must remain on delivering a successful World Cup.

Because organizing a global event of this scale requires cooperation between football authorities and national governments.
