Nigeria’s sprint hurdles star Tobi Amusan has booked her place in the 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final after climbing to second in the women’s 100m hurdles standings following another impressive campaign.
The world record holder has accumulated 28 points from five Diamond League meetings this season, guaranteeing qualification for the season-ending finale scheduled for September 4-5 in Brussels, Belgium.
Amusan sits second in the standings behind American rival Masai Russell, who leads the race with 32 points. Both athletes still have opportunities to add to their tally at the remaining Diamond League meetings in London, Lausanne, Silesia, and Zurich before the final.
The Nigerian has consistently challenged for top honours throughout the season, recording a season’s best of 12.28 seconds on three occasions. Russell, meanwhile, holds the fastest time in the world this year with 12.14 seconds.
The pair are expected to renew their growing rivalry in Brussels, where Amusan will be aiming to reclaim the Diamond League crown.
The 28-year-old won the women’s 100m hurdles title in three consecutive seasons from 2021 to 2023 and will be targeting a fourth overall triumph.
Amusan also remains the world record holder in the event after her historic 12.12-second performance at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, where she became Nigeria’s first world athletics champion.
With qualification already secured and several meetings still to come, Amusan will be looking to build momentum as she prepares for another shot at Diamond League glory in Brussels.
