Title Races Heat Up as Ardova Handball Premier League Heads to Lagos for Season-Deciding Second Phase

The race for supremacy in Nigerian handball is set to reach a thrilling climax as the second phase of the 2025 Ardova Handball Premier League heads to Lagos from November 25 to December 7, 2025. With title hopes hanging in the balance, all eyes will be on Safety Shooters and Safety Babes, the current frontrunners in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.

The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) confirmed in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Mrs. Monica Otumala, that the top-tier competition — proudly sponsored by Ardova PLC — will take place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Surulere, and Rowe Park Sports Center, Yaba.

With teams arriving in Lagos on November 25, the technical meeting will set the tone for what is expected to be a highly competitive final phase. Matches will begin on November 26, with the champions crowned on December 6, followed by team departures on December 7.

The men’s division is witnessing a neck-and-neck contest as Safety Shooters and COAS Shooters are level on 28 points, with only goal difference separating the two. Safety Shooters boast a formidable +91 goal difference, giving them the edge. Rima Strikers (25 points) and defending champions Tojemarine HC (24 points) remain within striking distance, setting the stage for a potential photo finish.

In the women’s division, Safety Babes, the unbeaten defending champions, remain the team to beat. With 21 points from seven matches, they are aiming for a historic fifth consecutive title, a feat that would further cement their dominance in Nigerian handball. Rima Queens (19 points) and Plateau Peacocks (15 points) are in pursuit, while Imo Grasshoppers and impressive newcomers Soof Omo Ogiefo HBC round out the top five.

HFN has urged all clubs to begin preparations in earnest, emphasizing that documentary registration must be completed by November 10, 2025.

“Participating teams must plan their arrival and departure within the stipulated period,” said Mrs. Otumala. “We encourage early preparations to ensure a smooth and successful tournament.”

As Lagos prepares to host the nation’s elite handball clubs, the upcoming phase promises not only top-level competition but also a showcase of the sport’s growing popularity and professionalism in Nigeria.
