‘Tinubu’s Sports Revolution Delivering Results’ — NSC Celebrates Nigeria’s Landmark Week of Global Successes

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has declared that Nigeria is witnessing a major transformation in sports under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following a remarkable week of achievements across football, cycling, aquatics, and athletics.

Speaking after a series of impressive performances by Team Nigeria athletes and the country’s successful bid to host major continental football events, NSC Director General Bukola Olopade praised President Tinubu’s support and commitment to sports development.

“This has been another great week for Nigerian sports and it is clear that the sector will continue to get better under the leadership and support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Olopade said.

According to the NSC boss, the administration’s strategic investment in sports is already producing visible results both competitively and administratively.

One of the biggest highlights came after President Tinubu approved Nigeria’s hosting of the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the prestigious CAF Awards during the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a meeting with CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Olopade described the approval as a major sign of Nigeria’s growing influence within global sports governance.

“The approval for Nigeria to host the CAF General Assembly and CAF Awards is a major statement about the country’s rising profile in global sports administration,” he added.

On the field of play, Team Nigeria also delivered outstanding performances across multiple sports.

At the ongoing Confederation of African Cycling Championships in Abuja, Nigerian cyclists dominated the competition with an impressive haul of 16 medals—9 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

In swimming, Nigeria recorded another milestone at the Africa Aquatics Championships in Algeria, winning three bronze medals while also receiving continental recognition as the Fastest Developing Aquatics Federation in Africa.

The country also impressed at the World Athletics Relays in Botswana, where Nigerian athletes secured qualification tickets for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing and the World Athletics Ultimate Championship.

Meanwhile, Team Nigeria athletes are currently competing at the CAA Senior African Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, where expectations remain high for more medals and strong performances.

Olopade stressed that the NSC remains focused on building a sustainable sports structure through grassroots development, athlete welfare, talent discovery, and increased international exposure.

“We are building a sports culture that promotes excellence, rewards hard work, and positions Nigeria as a dominant sporting nation globally. The future is bright for Nigerian sports,” he stated.

With strong results across different sporting platforms and growing international confidence in Nigeria’s sports administration, stakeholders believe the country is steadily entering a new era of sporting growth and global relevance.
