The Southampton midfielder explained that the weight of playing for Nigeria became more evident after making his international debut, describing it as both a challenge and a privilege.
“The pressure is massive, but it is also a huge honour,” Aribo said.
The 28-year-old noted that the expectations attached to the Super Eagles are similar to those he has experienced at club level, where winning is always demanded.
According to Aribo, every player quickly understands how much the national team means to Nigerians across the world.
“You quickly realise how much the country means to the fans,” he said.
The midfielder acknowledged that the responsibility of making millions of supporters proud naturally creates additional pressure whenever the team takes to the field.
“Millions of people are counting on you to perform,” he added.
However, Aribo insists he does not see those expectations as a burden but rather as a source of motivation that drives him to give his best every time he represents the country.
“It motivates me to give everything for the country,” he stressed.
Beyond individual performances, the former Rangers star also highlighted the importance of unity, leadership and maintaining strong relationships within the squad.
“I always try to keep the team together and set a good example,” he said.
Aribo further expressed gratitude for every opportunity to represent Nigeria, describing every invitation to the national team as a privilege he does not take for granted.
“Wearing the Super Eagles jersey is something I never take for granted,” he noted.
Since making his debut in 2019, Aribo has established himself as one of the experienced figures within the squad and has represented Nigeria at multiple major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations.
As the Super Eagles continue their rebuilding process under head coach Eric Chelle, Aribo believes embracing the responsibility that comes with representing Nigeria is essential for sustained success.
For the midfielder, the message remains straightforward: representing Nigeria comes with enormous expectations, but also an unmatched sense of pride.
