Team Ondo Dominates High Jump at BESS South West Games, Clinches Double Gold

Team Ondo showcased their growing reputation as a powerhouse in grassroots athletics with a commanding performance in the high jump events at the BESS South West Primary School Games, clinching gold medals in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.

Young talent Adeniran Femi led the charge in the boys’ final, soaring over the bar at 1.35 meters to secure the top spot.

His jump edged out Lagos’ Yusuf Efe, who claimed silver with a respectable 1.32m, while Osun’s Rafiu Abiodun completed the podium with bronze.

The girls’ final was equally thrilling as Esther Aderemi added to Ondo’s medal haul, clearing 1.22 meters to seal another gold for her state. Lagos’ Akinbemi Precious followed closely with a 1.17m jump to earn silver, while Ekiti’s Williams Inioluwa took bronze at 1.10m.

The back-to-back victories in both categories underscore Ondo’s strong grassroots development program and commitment to discovering and nurturing young talent in track and field.

Speaking after the event, officials praised the efforts of the young athletes and their coaches for putting in the hard work that culminated in such an impressive showing.

“These results prove that early investment in school sports can yield national-level prospects in the future,” one coach remarked.
